Privacy Policy - Smarter You

Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Smarter You app (Android and iOS) and related services. By using the Smarter You app, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Information We Collect

  • Personal Information: We may collect your email address or similar identifiers for support or optional features.
  • Automatically Collected Information: Device type, operating system, app version, and anonymized usage data.
  • Location Data: When you create journal entries, you can optionally capture your location (latitude, longitude, location name). This data is stored locally on your device and is only collected when you enable location capture for journal entries.
  • Calendar Data: If you grant calendar permission, the app reads your system calendar events (titles, dates, locations) to display them in the Calendar screen. This data is processed ephemerally (only in memory while displaying) and is never stored, shared, or transmitted. Calendar permission is optional and can be denied.
  • App Data: Tasks, notes, goals, habits, and journal entries remain local unless you export or sync via optional tools.

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the app and its features.
  • To send reminders/notifications you configure for tasks, goals, or habits.
  • To notify you of important updates, changes, or service interruptions.

Permissions

  • Camera: Optional. Used to capture images you attach. Not used in the background.
  • Location: Optional. Used to capture location when creating journal entries. Can be disabled in app settings. Location data is stored locally on your device.
  • Calendar: Optional. Used to read and display your system calendar events in the Calendar screen. This permission is requested at runtime and you can choose to deny it. Calendar data is processed ephemerally (only in memory while displaying) and is never stored, shared, or transmitted. The app only reads calendar events to display them alongside your tasks; it does not write, modify, or delete calendar events.
  • Notifications/Alarms: Used to remind you about items you configure.
  • Storage/Media: Optional. Used for backups/restore and attachments you select.

Location and Weather Data

When creating journal entries, you can optionally capture your location. Location data is completely optional and user-controlled:

  • Location is only captured when you explicitly enable it for a journal entry.
  • You can disable location capture in app settings at any time.
  • All location data (latitude, longitude, location name) is stored locally on your device in your journal entries.
  • Location data is never shared, except for one-time weather API calls: when you enable auto-weather for journal entries, your location coordinates are sent to a weather service to fetch current weather conditions. These coordinates are sent ephemerally (not stored by the weather service) and only used for that specific weather request.
  • You can remove location data from journal entries by editing or deleting the entries.

Crash Reporting and Analytics

Android: We use Google Firebase services (Crashlytics, Analytics) to help improve the app. Crash reports and anonymized usage data are collected; your personal content (tasks, notes, goals, habits, journal entries) is NOT sent. Data is encrypted in transit and processed in aggregated, anonymized form.

iOS: The iOS app does not use Firebase or any third-party crash or analytics services. No crash or usage data is sent off-device.

  • Firebase Crashlytics (Android only): Collects crash reports and error diagnostics (crash logs, stack traces, device info).
  • Firebase Analytics (Android only): Collects anonymized usage data (app interactions, feature usage, device information).
  • Important: Your personal content is never sent to these or any third-party services. Only crash reports and aggregated analytics (Android) are collected where applicable.

Data Retention Policy

We retain automatically collected information (analytics and crash reports) for up to 24 months, after which it may be aggregated or anonymized for analytical purposes. Your personal app data (tasks, notes, goals, habits, journal entries) remains on your device unless you export it.

Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect data from children under the age of 13. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that their child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at smartertechnologist @t gmail.com. We will take steps to delete the information promptly.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically. Any significant changes will be notified through the app or our website. Continued use of the services after such changes constitutes your acceptance.

Your Consent

By using our applications and services, you consent to the collection, use, and processing of your information as described in this Privacy Policy.

Data Deletion and User Rights

Local Data (stored on device only, NOT shared):

All user content (tasks, notes, goals, habits, journal entries, location data) is stored locally on your device. You can delete this data by:

  • Manually deleting individual items within the app
  • Uninstalling the app (deletes all local data from device)

Since this data is never transmitted off-device, there is no server-side data to delete.

Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics Data (Android only):

These services collect aggregated, anonymized data that is not personally identifiable. Since there are no user accounts, Firebase data cannot be tied to specific users for deletion. Important: The app does not create user accounts or store personally identifiable information on servers. All user content remains on the device and can be deleted by you at any time.
