Browser Sync

Keep Chrome bookmarks and Smarter Bookmarks on Android connected through your Google account. Browser Sync is now available to all users and stores encrypted sync data in your Google Drive app data.

Overview

Browser Sync keeps supported bookmarks and collections aligned between Chrome and Smarter Bookmarks on Android. It is designed to converge quickly, but it is not an instant push service. Chrome extension service workers and Android background limits can delay sync until the app or extension wakes.

  • Manual Sync Now: Trigger a sync when you want Chrome and Android to check for recent changes
  • Background-Friendly Design: Browser Sync uses local change tracking, batching, and periodic checks where Chrome and Android allow background work

How to Use

  1. Install the Extension: Install the Smarter Bookmarks browser extension from the Chrome Web Store
  2. Sign In: Sign in with the same Google account on both your Android app and browser extension
  3. Enable Browser Sync: Turn on Browser Sync in Smarter Bookmarks on Android
  4. Run Sync Now: Use Sync Now after updating from the old flow so Chrome and Android reconnect through Google Drive
  5. Keep Browsing: Continue saving and organizing bookmarks while Browser Sync keeps devices converging

Important Update

Browser Sync is out of beta and no longer requires Smarter Bookmarks Pro. The previous Browser Sync flow has been retired, so users updating from the old extension should open Smarter Bookmarks on Android and run Browser Sync once to reconnect Chrome bookmarks and collections.

Security & Privacy

Browser Sync uses Google OAuth for sign-in and stores encrypted sync data in your Google Drive app data. Bookmark sync payloads are encrypted before upload and are not transported through Smarter servers.
