Smarter Bookmarks - Browser Sync Terms of Service

1. Service Description

Browser Sync enables bidirectional synchronization of supported bookmarks and collections between the Smarter Bookmarks Chrome extension and Android app. The service uses Google account authentication and encrypted sync data stored in your Google Drive app data.

2. Availability

Browser Sync is out of beta and no longer requires Smarter Bookmarks Pro. The previous Browser Sync flow has been retired. Users updating from the old flow may need to open Smarter Bookmarks on Android and run Browser Sync once to reconnect Chrome bookmarks and collections through the new system.

3. Account and Authentication

Browser Sync requires you to sign in with a Google account. You are responsible for:

• Maintaining the security of your Google account credentials
• Using the same Google account on all devices you wish to sync
• Ensuring your Google account has appropriate security measures enabled

We do not store your Google account password. Authentication is handled through Google's OAuth system.

4. Data Synchronization

By using Browser Sync, you understand and agree that:

• Supported bookmark data, including URLs, titles, descriptions, notes, tags, and collections, may be synchronized between your devices
• Sync data is stored in your Google Drive app data
• Bookmark sync payloads are encrypted before upload
• Sync is designed to converge quickly, but Chrome and Android background limits can delay synchronization
• You can trigger sync manually with Sync Now where available

5. Google Account and Device Access

Browser Sync uses the same Google account on Chrome and Android to identify your sync space. To use Browser Sync, you need:

• Google account sign-in on both devices
• Google Drive availability for app data sync storage
• The Smarter Bookmarks Android app and Chrome extension installed

You can sign out or disable Browser Sync at any time. Disabling sync stops future synchronization but does not delete bookmarks already stored on your devices.

6. Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability for Browser Sync, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The service may be temporarily unavailable due to:

• Scheduled maintenance
• System updates or upgrades
• Unexpected technical issues
• Third-party service dependencies (Google services, Chrome APIs)

7. Data Storage and Privacy

Your bookmark data is used solely for synchronization purposes. Please review our Smarter Bookmarks - Browser Sync Privacy Policy for detailed information about data handling, storage, and privacy practices.

8. User Responsibilities

You agree to:

• Use Browser Sync only for lawful purposes
• Not attempt to abuse, overload, or disrupt the synchronization service
• Maintain the security of your devices and accounts
• Comply with all applicable laws and regulations
• Not use the service to sync content that violates third-party rights or is illegal

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to Browser Sync if:

• You violate these terms
• You engage in abusive or fraudulent activity
• Required by law or to protect our systems

You may disable Browser Sync at any time through the Android app or Chrome extension settings.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:

• Data loss or corruption during synchronization
• Service interruptions or unavailability
• Issues arising from third-party services (Google, Chrome)
• Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages

You are responsible for maintaining backups of your bookmark data.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app or website. Continued use of Browser Sync after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of this jurisdiction.
